Rounding out the top three most crowded markets for unicorns are: internet software & services (14%) and fintech (9%).

Stripe ($9.2B) is the most valuable private fintech company.

Our market map divides unicorns up into thirteen markets comprised of private companies valued at $1B+.

Rounding out the top five are: Xiaomi ($46B), Didi Chuxing ($34B), Airbnb ($29B), and Palantir Technologies ($20B).

Approximately 32% of the companies included in the global unicorn club are valued at $1B.

The majority of the world’s unicorns are based in the US (55%), followed by China (21%), India (4%), the UK (4%), Germany (2%), and South Korea (2%).
